Do International Students Get a Post-Study Work Visa in Germany?
Yes. After completing your degree in Germany, you can apply for an 18-month post-study work visa (Job-Seeking Residence Permit).
This visa allows you to:
Stay in Germany for up to 18 months
Work in any field, full-time or part-time
Search for a job related to your degree

To apply, you must meet the following:

How to Apply for the Post-Study Work Visa
Book an appointment at your local Ausländerbehörde (Foreigners’ Office)
Submit all required documents
Pay the application fee: €100–€110
Receive a Job-Seeking Residence Permit valid for 18 months
📍 You must stay in Germany during this period and actively look for a job.
Can You Work Full-Time During the 18 Months?
Yes. You can take any job (full-time or part-time) — even if it’s not directly related to your studies — to support yourself while searching for your ideal role.
Once you land a job relevant to your degree, you can apply for:
A German work visa, or
An EU Blue Card (if your salary meets the threshold)
What Comes After the 18 Months?
If you get a qualified job (related to your degree), you can:
🔹 Apply for an EU Blue Card
Salary must be at least €45,300/year (2025 update; varies by field)
Fast-track to permanent residency in 33 months (or 21 months with B1 German)
🔹 Apply for a Work Residence Permit (non-Blue Card)
No salary threshold (but must be enough to support yourself)
Renewable every 1–2 years
